I remember the first time I walked this backyard. The concrete was cracked everywhere, the grass was mostly dirt, and the homeowner told me she had not had a single barbecue back here in two years because the space was just too run down. That hit home for me. We sat down at her kitchen table and mapped out a plan that would give her family a real outdoor living room, not just a yard.

Project Scope
Complete backyard renovation including paver patio, artificial turf installation, and aluminum patio cover.
The Challenge
The existing yard had poor drainage that was pushing water toward the foundation. The old concrete slab was settling unevenly, and there was almost no usable shade. We had to solve the water problem first before anything else could happen.
Our Solution
We ripped out everything and regraded the entire yard with a proper slope away from the house. I had our crew install a French drain along the back wall where water was pooling the worst. Once the drainage was right, we put down a compacted aggregate base and laid Belgard pavers in a herringbone pattern with a charcoal soldier course border. The turf section went in next to the pavers with a clean aluminum edge divider. Then we framed and installed a 20-by-16 insulated aluminum patio cover with recessed LED lights and two ceiling fans.
